Piano Man


While the music on The Essential Billy Joel albums is spectacular, the overall aesthetic does not match the legend that is Billy Joel. As the third best solo artist in the United States, you would expect the design caliber to equal his musical talent.

The goal of The Essential Billy Joel rebrand was to draw upon Joel’s first hit record, Piano Man. The entire identity system—from typography and color, to shape—draws inspiration from a baby grand piano. The outer case encompasses the shape of a grand piano, with the record sleeves displaying different aspects of the keys. By using Joel's Piano Man as the inspiration, this collector’s set is sure to catch the eye of a true Billy Joel fanatic.
